7.    Eat reasonable portions. Foreigners are usually shocked by the portions Americans eat. If you eat only when you are hungry and don’t overeat, you can save a great amount of money. It is always better to eat one organic apple than 3 non-organic ones, even if the organic one might be more expensive (although it doesn’t have to be if you are using co-op or shopping at local farmer’s markets).

8.    If you are too lazy or suspicious to join co-ops and look for farmer’s markets, shop grocery stores selectively. There are certain non-organic foods, such as bananas or avocados, which tend to be lower in pesticide levels and therefore, are relatively safe.
