A Good Diet Improves Performance at School

Here is yet another reason to maintain a healthy diet in your family. According to a recent study, published in the Journal of School Health, children who eat a good amount of fruits, vegetables, fiber and protein, are significantly less likely to fail tests at school.

According to new studies, eating healthy will not only improve your health, but directly boost your memory function.

The researchers found that the better a child’s eating habits were, the better chances that he or she would do well on tests. While doing the study, the researchers considered other factors, such as parents’ marital status, education level and family income.

It is important to teach children how to eat healthy from their early years. There is really no need to introduce them to French-fries, cookies, or ice-cream until they are at least 3. Some of our friends think that our kids miss out on “good” stuff, because we are trying to eat healthy. Well, “good” is subjective. I grew up on organic foods and I personally don’t understand why people say that hamburgers, or cakes with green-blue icings, which last for years in the refrigerator, are tasty. To me they taste disgusting. I wouldn’t even eat them if they were healthy, because I think they taste awful. Most of the people who grew up like me share my views.

Believe it or not, my kids (who are 1 and 4) like sea weed. They ask for it, it is their treat and I like it this way. In my humble opinion, teriyaki sea weed tastes so much better than a french-fry.

So, choose healthier snacks for your kids, avoid unnecessary fats and sugar; give your children foods with plenty of nutrients; give them more fruits and vegetables and make sure to be a good example. This will benefit the entire family. Eat together often (not in front of the TV) – a number of studies showed that teenagers who eat with their families at the table on a regular basis, have much less trouble at school (behaviorally and academically).

This is not surprising at all. American kids eat so much junk.
