An Ode to Garlic (Or Simply: Benefits of Garlic)

I have to admit I can’t write this without bias, because I am deeply and madly in love with garlic. So much that I am almost drooling while writing this. I think of Garlic Marinara pizza from our local pizzeria and peppered garlic pork, which my grandmother used to make. Ooh and also tomatoes stuffed with garlic cheese sauce…Sorry… Where was I?

Garlic has a wonderful flavor and if your date has a problem with then smell of garlic, consider finding a new date. I am joking of course, but health benefits of garlic are innumerable, so I think everyone should love it and eat a lot of it.

Garlic has been known as the king of spices, and for thousands of years people have used it for medicinal, cooking and gardening purposes. In some cultures there is a belief that garlic protects you from evil spirits, so people would either carry a clove of garlic in their pocket or make a garlic necklace to wear throughout the day.

In gardening, garlic is used to keep most insect pests away from the other plants. Gardeners suggest that for these purposes you should plant it on the outer edge of your garden. Garlic is very easy to grow, so I highly recommend doing it, because buying organic garlic (which, of course, has the most benefits) can get expensive.

Health benefits of garlic are limitless:

-    garlic fights infectious diseases and boosts the immune system
-    it helps to prevent cancer cells in your body
-    it can help clear up your skin by stabilizing hormones (especially if you are a teenager or pregnant)
-    it lowers the bad cholesterol in your body
-    it improves appetite (not that I need it)
-    it protects against heart disease and stroke
-    it is anti-inflammatory
-    it helps to remove heavy metals from your body
-    it reduces and treats yeast infections

These are just the biggest benefits of garlic and i think they should be enough for anyone to fall in love with this “wonder” vegetable.
