Does Black Tea Have Any Health Benefits
We all are aware of green tea and its health benefits. But what about black tea? Does black tea offer us anything besides its taste?
Most of my friends drink black tea as a coffee substitute and think that its only benefit, besides the taste, is caffeine. Thankfully, this assumption is incorrect.
Black teas might not have as many healing powers as green teas (although there is some debate going on about that), but nevertheless they have many health benefits that tea drinkers should be aware of.
Black tea is the most popular tea in the West. The majority of Americans enjoy it with sugar and ice. It is better to avoid sugar while drinking tea, because its negative effects might overpower all the health benefits from the tea. If you like your tea sweet, there is a great and healthy alternative called Stevia. Stevia is an herb with many health benefits, which you can usually buy as a powder. It is cheap and you need very little to make your tea (or whatever else you would like) sweet.
Black tea contains strong antioxidant compounds and is high in Vitamin C. It doesn’t have calories, and in some cultures it is used to help people lose weight. It lowers blood pressure and increases blood flow.
Some studies show that drinking teas, both black and green may reduce chances of getting oral cancer, especially in smokers.
Black tea, according to a new study, can boost your brain function and make you more mentally alert.
So even though green tea is the one which is usually associated with health, black tea drinkers have plenty to be proud of.
We like to drink Numi Organic tea. I am a big fan of their Earl Gray Bergamot teas. You can buy their teas online- loose, bagged or bottled. They have a pretty good selection. Their teas can be prices it times, but to me it is worth it.
