7 Easy Ways to Make Your Organic Home Greener!

1.    First of all, start with the kitchen. Get rid of junk food and stop convincing yourself that it tastes good. It doesn’t. Learn how to cook from scratch – it is much easier than you think. It will not only make your organic home greener, but will save you a bunch of money.

2.    Throw away chemical cleaning solutions and make your own (This will also save you money, by the way). If you have vinegar, lemon juice and a few other basic items (here is my post on  how to make your own cleaning solutions on how to make your own cleaning solutions), you can freely thrown the other crap away. You don’t need 15 different cleaning solutions despite of what marketing specialists are trying to tell you.

3.    Organic home is not really organic or green if you are not buying organic or local produce. If you can’t afford it, grow your own. If you can’t, read my post on how to get organic on a budget.

4.    If you can afford it, buy biodegradable furniture. If you are buying hardwood cabinetry, make sure you by the one made of formaldehyde-free plywood.

5.    Turn the water off when brushing your teeth. This is very easy, but there are so many people who don’t do it. Turning the water of will save four gallons of water a minute, or 1,000 gallons of water a year for the average family.

Another way to save water in your home is to install a low-flow toilet. These toilets use only 1.6 gallons per flush.

6.    Your organic home will be much more green if you top using creams and scrubs which are packed with chemicals and make your own face masks. They are easy to make, they are cheap and are very good for your skin and, of course, the environment.

7.    Switch to Compact Fluorescent light bulbs. They use 66% less energy than a standard incandescent bulb and last up to 10 times longer.
