Organic Gardening: Three Things Which Are Easy to Grow.
If you are looking for a new hobby, or an activity which would involve your entire family, consider organic gardening. You will not only provide your family with healthy food, but help the environment and spend some quality time together.
If you have never done organic gardening or any gardening before, you don’t have to overwhelm yourself trying to plant 20 different vegetables at once. Start slowly with a few things that your family likes and which are easy to grow. I suggest starting with tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini.
Tomatoes are one of the easiest vegetables to grow. They are also a vegetable that almost everyone likes, so it is a good idea to grow something that will actually be eaten. All tomatoes need is some sunlight (8 plus hours a day), moisture and warmth. Well, of course, don’t forget to plant them in organically rich soil and fertilize them with an organic fertilizer. Also, plant them approximately 20 inches from each other to give them plenty of room to grow.
Zucchini is another vegetable that is very easy to grow. The biggest challenge with zucchini is usually trying to keep it from overtaking your garden. The green zucchini produces the most fruit. Space them 2 feet or so apart, and fertilize them at least every month.
Cucumbers are usually planted as seeds in late April – early May, when the soil has warmed up. Plant them about ¼ inch deep. You only need a few plants to get plenty of cucumbers.
Happy organic gardening!
