Get Organic Grapes – Reduce Your Blood Pressure

Good news for those who love grapes! A new study done by the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center found out that eating grapes can help reduce high blood pressure as well as reduce other factors linked to heart disease.

The study was not specifically done on organic grapes, but we all know that organically grown, chemical and pesticide-free grapes are much better for our health.
So if you decide to eat grapes to protect your heart, you might as well buy organic and protect the rest of your body as well.

The researchers who led the study fed laboratory rats regular table grapes (a mix of green, red and black with skin, flesh and seeds) along with either high or low salt diet. The control group of rats didn’t get any grapes. According to the results of the study, after 18 weeks of this “diet”, rats who were fed grapes in their diet had lower blood pressure, reduced inflammation in their bodies, less heart muscle damage and significantly better heart function.

Scientists believe that these effects are due to the high level of phytochemicals found in grapes. Phytochemicals are so-called “natural” chemicals – chemicals which are produced naturally by plants. Phytochemicals in grapes serve as antioxidants, which not only help the heart, but also help reduce certain risks of cancer.

Some doctors also believe that both conventional and organic grapes helps in reducing weight (even though they are high in sugar) and have anti-aging properties. Grape juice is a known home remedy for coughing and the benefits of red grape wine (moderately consumed) are known to probably everyone.

If you are looking for a healthy snack for your kids, chose raisins. They will satisfy sweet tooth, and give your child nutrients and antioxidants. Raisins are also known to help reduce coughs and prevent ulcers in your mouth.
