Why Buy Organic Herbs and Spices

The best part of organic herbs is that they are grown naturally and do not contain chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Herbs are often used for medicinal purposes and when someone uses non-organic herbs, which are sprayed with questionable chemical substances, a question is raised: Is poisoning ourselves with chemicals worth the benefits of herbal therapy?

If in doubt, we should use organic herbs. Just like every natural product, organic herbs and spices may be more expensive. However, there are many places where you can buy them in bulk and save money.

The downside of buying in bulk is that unless you know exactly how this herb or spice tastes and whether it works for you or not, you may get stuck with 4 pounds of fenugreek seed, which you don’t have any use for and hate its taste.

Even though the American Food and Drug Administration keeps pointing out that there is no scientific research proving that herbs and spices have medicinal effects, I usually laugh at this. If it works for billions of Chinese, why doesn’t it work for Americans? Probably because pharmaceutical company monsters don’t want to lose their billions by admitting that there are indeed alternative and much healthier treatments.

From my own experience I know that herbal therapy works. And it is not the placebo effect. We used a number of herbs to treat my infant son’s eczema. I am not sure my 5-month-old baby knew what a placebo was. What we all knew was that bathing him in certain organic herbs and applying virgin olive oil helped him much more than using expensive creams and lotions.

On top of medical benefits, herbs can spice up any boring meal or afternoon tea.

Speaking of tea, getting into the habit of drinking organic herbal teas every day is not a bad idea. Teas, such as butcher’s broom root or astragalus root tea, help you lose weight by reducing hunger and boosting energy. Some teas work as laxatives; some calm your stress; others boost you up with vitamins and make your immunity stronger. For example, one cup of hibiscus tea will give you the daily intake in vitamin C.

If you still think all of these are bogus, try herbal teas and organic spices anyway. They taste good.
