Organic Pregnancy Tips: Nutrition

If you are reading this, good chances are that you are pregnant. Congratulations! Despite the morning sickness and everything you might be going through, this is a wonderful and unforgettable experience. To make this experience even better, let’s make your pregnancy as organic as possible.

Firstly, remember about nutrition. Eat organic foods which are packed with vitamins and nutrients. Spinach and asparagus might be the last thing you crave and you might feel much happier crunching chips and chocolate truffles, but remember, it is not only about you now.

Spinach, asparagus and cereal provide you with folate, which helps prevent a baby’s brain and spinal cord from developing abnormalities as well as neural tube defects.

Calcium is another crucial element for both you and your baby. You need 1000 milligrams of calcium per day. The richest in calcium are dairy products. Make sure you buy organic dairy which come from cows which were fed organically and were not given growth hormones and antibiotics.

Some other products that are very high in calcium are spinach, broccoli, tofu and salmon.

Iron and protein are two other crucial nutrients for every pregnant woman. Continue eating the products mentioned above, plus add peanut butter, beans and poultry and you should be fine.

No matter how well you are trying to eat, remember to take prenatal vitamins to ensure you are getting enough of the good stuff.

While concentrating on all of the foods you have to and want to eat, don’t neglect drinks. you need to drink more during pregnancy. Organic teas or water is your best choice. I recommend Traditional Medicinals Organic Pregnancy Tea which was created specifically for health cautious pregnant moms.

Cut back on coffee and choose pure filtered water or organic juices. Don’t get fond of non-organic fruit juices, because on top of being made from conventionally grown fruits (which as you know are not the best) they are packed with sugars and high fructose corn syrup. You will do yourself more harm than good when drinking these.

If you feel like you really need to eat a doughnut or a peace of chocolate cheesecake, go for it. An occasional sinful treat is OK, even if you are trying really hard to have a very organic pregnancy.:-) Remember not to sin too often though, because you don’t want to get any extra pounds on top of the 25-35 you are going to gain anyway.

At last, thoroughly wash all produce, organic or not, before eating. Be safe.

I wish you happy, easy and, of course, organic pregnancy!
